12A – Figuring Out Buyer Behavior No. 1
12A – Figuring Out Buyer Behavior No. 1
Choosing a Segment:
For my segment I chose small bars in my area. All of these
bars are not nearly as well known in the college scene. The first place I went
to was Boca Resto Lounge. There website needs some updating, but have all of
their events for the month posted. The second bar I went to was Moons Tavern an
Irish pub. Its only 8 miles from FAU, yet rarely discussed as a go to bar. The
last place was Turn 3 Sports bar. They are about 9 miles away, there promotions
are not the best and the website needs some improvements.
What I learned:
Throughout my interviews I learned all three of these bars
had somewhat the same strategy for advertising. They would post stuff on social
media such as Facebook and twitter and then have their promotions on their
website. Other than that they would only do radio ads when they had a big event
going on. I asked why they have not tried to improve social media presence. They
all came back and said they didn’t really understand how to market it better.
Other than having their names and twitter handles on the front door, and on some
sheets taped to the wall. I discussed my proposal, they liked it but still felt
they would be lost with all the other bars in the area. There would need to be
a way to filter out certain bars through ratings or style.
How I would describe this segment:
This segment definitely has potential, there are a lot of
bars who needs more brand awareness. However, this segment needs more than just
their name placed on a app. They need a millennial redesign, as in marketable
to the younger generation, having a larger social media presence. All of the business owners agreed that their strategy needs updating.
Growing up in Delray Beach I have been to some of those bars and they definitely could use this app. I agree with them that due to the amount of bars in south Florida it would be overwhelming. However in your elevator pitch you hinted at having a select range they would advertise too this would be very important for them. If I go to and FAU game or go to mizner park or something and want a drink near by I would only be able to see their establishments.
ReplyDeleteSocial media is a great way for places to market themselves. Just recently on Twitter, there was a rap battle between the Wingstop and Wendy's which helped both of them gain a lot of publicity. Like you said, the bars need to update their strategy but the app you suggest is a great start for them. It would help them get their name out and make more customers aware of their deals which leads to a win-win situation. Having a filter would greatly improve the app and make it more user friendly.
