In 2008 the budget consisted of 14.1% of the island GDP, in 2015 it dropped to 10.2%. 1800 schools were closed in that time frame and 40,000 teachers have left since 2007. The budget is effecting teacher’s salary. They receive only 533 pesos a year or $20 a month, and are overworked. 1.7 million students will start on the 4 th and they only have 248,438 teachers. · The main problem is that Raúl Castro keeps lowering the educational budget, making it difficult to find teachers willing to work for essentially nothing. · Teachers, children, and parents are mainly affected.
